Our continuous work is also recently certified by Green Globe Certification guaranteeing that our green policy is on the right track and we are providing a healthy and responsible environment for both staff and hotel guests!

Green Globe Certification – Certification Program for Sustainable Tourism

Not only contributing continuous work on protecting the environment, we also have to ensure things are done the right way on the right track. This year, Cosmo Hotel Hong Kong (Green Globe Certificate Number: (CH00529H) and Cosmo Hotel Mongkok (Green Globe Certificate Number: CH00550H) proudly announce the accreditation by Green Globe as a few of certified green hotels in Hong Kong! Green Globe is a worldly recognized travel and tourism industries’ certification program for sustainable tourism and it comprehensively recognizes a number of areas including but not limited to social economic, cultural heritage and environmental. The certification includes mandatory core criteria of 320 compliance indicators. Cosmo Hotel Hong Kong and Cosmo Hotel Mongkok have successfully achieved 83% and 85% respectively. Reassessment has also to be done every year to ensure we go on with the green practices constantly on a satisfactory level.

“Social responsibility is a growing aspect our business is looking into while environmental protection is one of the essential focuses. Green policies are no longer a bandwagon but necessary initiatives to create a healthy environment for both hotel guests and staff,” Anita Chan, General Manager of both hotels reinstated. “Sometimes deeds can be as small as turning off the lights before leaving the room yet we strongly believe in accumulating efforts. With this accreditation, we have even more confidence to improve sustainability in our upcoming green activities. We hope that with all invited efforts, we can help save the planet and at the same time, gain goodwill for the business.” Chan further shared.

Green Work by Cosmo Hotels

Being one of the largest and most influential consumer industries, Cosmo Hotels take proactive initiatives to save the planet. Some of the key achievements when comparing Q1 of 2011 and 2012 include electricity saving at a substantial 21.5% and 9.6% by Cosmo Hotel Mongkok and Cosmo Hotel Hong Kong respectively. This encouraging result symbolizes our right decision on LED lighting revamp for the properties and the effort of temperature adjustment in public areas for twice daily. Figures also show that there is a 14% drop on linen laundry at Cosmo Hotel Mongkok, reflecting the effectiveness of linen/towel reuse by in-house guests. A further 16% in water saving in Cosmo Hotel Hong Kong implies its water saving policy is marching towards the right direction.

Apart from numeric figures, our shuttle bus service is also a prime index in reducing carbon dioxide emission to the city with the fact that carpooling is greatly encouraged avoiding multiple cars reaching the same destination. In terms of green environment, Breeze on 5/F of Cosmo Hotel Hong Kong is served as an open patio abundant in plants. Both of the properties are as well using eco-friendly natural refrigerants for the air-conditioning system to make sure our ozone layer is free from harm.

Also to ensure result is maximized, the hotels have been inviting guests to contribute in green polices for example reusing bed linen and towels, and also from the hotels’ end, a waste recycling program to minimize wastage. In the coming year, we will continue this mission by reinventing in-room facilities e.g. installing soap dispenser in disposal of one-time disposable packaging aiming to reduce the harm that may cause during the decomposing process. In addition, other social responsibility programs are on the gear encouraging job trainings to the local community and the youth in particular. The hotels are also designing a Green Book which will be placed in all rooms inviting guests’ participation with us making their trip greener and the planet happier.
